Harbourside Fish and Chips
The Barbican is steeped in history; it is the name given to the old harbour in Plymouth, one of the only parts of the city to survive the devastation of the Blitz. The port has many years of experience in the British institution of fish & chips and on the waterfront sits the culmination of this – Harbourside Fish & Chips.
From eleven o’clock every day of the week, Harbourside provides locals and visitors alike with quality fish dinners. Twice fried chunky chips and finest quality fish coated it in secret recipe batter are served up by a team of attentive staff.
It was recently announced that Harbourside had been named the South West regional winner at the 2015 National Fish & Chip Awards, making them one of the top 10 shops in the country. This came as no surprise thanks to their concern for the environment - all Harbourside fish is sourced from sustainable fishing grounds off Iceland and Norway. It is filleted and frozen within 2 or 3 hours of being caught for maximum freshness. They display the Marine Conservation Society pocket 'Good fish guide' in store and buy local produce where possible. You can even find out the daily potato variety and farm of origin from a blackboard in-store!
At the heart of Harbourside’s success is their balance of tradition and innovation. Not content with just battering their fish, they also offer grilled or pan fried options for the modern, health-conscious diner.
Victoria Eggs' bespoke design aims to capture this blend of old favourites and contemporary dining where you can request ‘extra salt and vinegar’ on your ‘sustainably sourced fish’. Harbourside gives you the best of both worlds and has attracted tourists since the 1970s thanks to its prime position on the Barbican. Victoria celebrates this historic centre with references to the launching of the Mayflower, Plymouth’s association with Sir Francis Drake and of course, the unmistakeable image of Smeaton’s tower Lighthouse.
Victoria took inspiration from the tradition of wrapping fish and chips in newspaper and combines text and imagery about Hourbourside Fish and Chip shop and its surroundings. The design is available on aprons and mugs, printed onto 100% unbleached organic cotton and fine bone china using environmentally friendly inks, handmade in Britain.
