St Paul's Cathedral

St Paul's Cathedral mug by Victoria Eggs

Victoria Eggs pays homage to St Paul’s cathedral with another suitably British and well loved design. Arguably London’s most iconic building, it embodies the spiritual life and heritage of the British people. Miraculous survivor of the Blitz, infamous burial place of Lord Nelson and the location of Princess Diana’s funeral, the building holds an enduring place in British hearts.

Cathedral officials approached Victoria in 2013 to produce a custom-made design for the landmark. After this Victoria was given a tour and history of the building allowing her to photograph elements of interest and aesthetic beauty. Using this material she produced the design which is now available on canvas bags, tea towels, mugs and coasters in black, red and blue.

Not only are all the products made in Britain but the design is based on Great British outline, featuring such recognisable British sights as the red telephone box, Union Jack and Big Ben clock face. These familiar outlines are joined by the silhouette of St Paul’s famous dome designed by Christopher Wren, a hymn book and church candle. The design also pays tribute to William Holman Hunt’s life-sized painting ‘The Light of the World’, still hanging within the Cathedral’s walls, with an outline of the lantern carried by Christ in the work.
